Two Simple Christmas Ornaments!

Hi, friends! Jerica here from YarnHookNeedles. Today I am showing you how to create two super cute and simple Christmas ornaments.

So grab your yarns, hooks, and scissors and let’s get started!

MATERIALS:

GAZZAL Baby Wool in the colors: Red, Black, White, Green & Yellow

3MM Hook

Scissors

Tapestry Needle

Stuffing

CHRISTMAS TREE ORNAMENT:

Tree Panel (make 2)

CH 3

R1 – HDC (half double crochet) in the 3rd CH from the hook. CH 2. Turn.

R2 – Place a HDC into the same stitch as the CH 2. HDC all the way across. CH 2. Turn.

R3 – R11: repeat row 2. Tie Off.

Adding the “ornaments”:

Using your tapestry needle and a contrasting yarn, simply sew little asterisks about to give the effect of ornaments on the tree. Do all your ornaments in one color before switching to another color.

I only did this to one side of the tree but you could do both sides if you desired! For the star, I used yellow and sewed a larger asterisk at the top point.

SEWING & STUFFING THE TREE ORNAMENT:

Once you have added your ornaments you can begin whip stitching the sides. Start sewing at the base of the tree and seem up to the top of the tree then back down to the other base. Before you close up the bottom you will add your stuffing.

After you add the stuffing your will continue with your whip stitching and sew the bottom closed. Weave in your ends and you’re done!

At this point, you can add whatever type of string, yarn or twine you would like to act as the hanger for your tree ornament! I chose yellow to help show the “star” off at the top of the tree.

From here you can add your ornament to the tree or you can add it to a gift or however you feel like using it.

FRENCH SNOWMAN ORNAMENT:

Rnd 5 – CH 2 and place a HDC into the same CH 2 space. *HDC into the next 4 stitches. Place 2 HDC into the next stitch. Repeat from * all the way around. SL ST to the top of the CH 2.

Tie off leaving a long tail for sewing on to the snowman.

ATTACHING THE HAT AND EYES:

Taking your long tail, place the hat however you would like on the snowman. Then, you will proceed to sew the hat on by weaving your tapestry needle in and out of the stitches around the 5th round of the hat. Once you go all the way around. Weave in your loose end.

For the eyes, you will mimic what you did with the ornaments on the Tree. I made the asterisks extra large by going over and over. This caused the eyes to be extra big!

Once you’re done, weave in your ends and you’re done.

I hope you enjoy making these little trinkets!

Merry Christmas

The Knit-A-Like Dress For Kids By YarnHookNeedles

Hello, Friends! It’s Jerica from YarnHookNeedles bringing you a fun Autumn pattern for kids. As a mother of 7, I am always looking for fun, creative ways to add handmade pieces to my children’s wardrobe. I also know I want something simple yet looks difficult.

Today’s pattern captures just that! While technical in its appearance, the knit-a-like dress is anything but hard to make. You will find yourself whipping one up in just one weekend. Head below to get the quick and easy material list and pattern so you too can make one for the special child in your life!

Materials:

Pattern Notes:

This pattern is for a child size XS (4/5). However, you can easily adjust things to fit whatever size you need. Simply measure from the top of the breastbone down to the desired length. This will determine how long you need your foundation chain to be. There isn’t a multiple needed for this stitch (just remember to add 3 additional stitches to your foundation so as to create the first DC. To create the width needed you will continue to add rows until you reach your desired measurements.

The Pattern:

CH 93 ((Make 2 panels))

Row 1 – In the 4th CH from the hook DC. Continue with DCs all the way across. CH 2. Turn.

Row 2 – (CH 2 counts as first DC)) DC in the back loops all the way across. CH 2. Turn.

Rows 3 – 25 : Repeat row 2.

Seaming:

Measuring the width of the tops of the shoulders you will simply seam the top on both sides leaving enough space to create a head hole. Then, you will determine how large you want your armholes. For this dress, I laid right sides together and seamed from the bottom up a total of 60 sts. Weave in your ends.

Finishing off the dress:

For an added “finished” look I went around the bottom with HDC (half double crochet) sts. Then I went around the head hole with SC sts. This isn’t something you have to do but I did since I know these areas get a lot of use from kiddos.

Making the drawstring tie:

For an added touch I created a drawstring tie using two strings of the la Mia cottony. I made an extra long tail and chained a total of 150. I then tied it off measuring both ends of the tails to make sure they were even. Taking my crochet hook I wove the tie in and out starting at the back and bringing it around to the front.

That’s it! I hope you enjoy making the knit-a-like dress. I had a lot of fun creating it and working with the luxurious la Mia Cottony from Hobium Yarns.

The Perfect Knitted Blanket Shrug Pattern By Jerica From YarnHookNeedles

Hi, friends!

I’m Jerica from YarnHookNeedles.com! I am a knitwear designer who creates all sorts of items using knitting and crochet techniques. Today I am sharing with you a super fun pattern I created using the Hobium Yarn: GAZZAL BABY WOOL XL BABY YARN, PINK – 828XL. I fell head over heels in love with the texture as well as the silky simple way it works!

Let’s get started!

GATHER YOUR MATERIALS:

  • 6 cakes of Gazzal Baby Wool XL Baby Yarn in your desired color choice (appr. 654 yards)
  • US 13 circular needles
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry Needle

***please note this blanket shrug is a ONE-SIZE-FITS-ALL pattern

For this tutorial, I will be making a miniature version to help you learn the knitting pattern as well as clearly understand the assembling of the piece!

KNITTING TERMS:

K – knit

P – purl

YO – yarn over

SSK – slip slip knit

K2TOG – knit 2 together

THE PATTERN:

this pattern maintains a multiple of 6 + 2 (feel free to adapt the pattern to your desired size)

CAST ON 92

Row 1 – *k4, yo, ssk; repeat from * to last 4 sts, k4

(PICTORIAL FOR THE YO, SSK STITCH)

YO

Slip Knitwise

Knit the Slipped Stitches

Row 2 – purl all the way across

Row 3 – *k4, k2tog, yo; rep from * to last 4 sts, k4

Row 4 – purl all the way across

Your pattern should be looking like this after a few repeats:

Rows 5 – 189 : repeat rows 1 – 4

Row 190 – bind off

After you bind off the last row you will have a large rectangle. You will want to face your rectangle from the lines going vertically like this:

To the lines facing horizontally like this:

You will then fold right sides together bringing the top down to meet the bottom. From here you will need to grab you tapestry needle. We are going to seam appr. 12 inches closed to form the armholes.

After seaming, your shrug should look like this:

You can now see the neckline where the shrug will wrap around the top portion of your body.

The armholes:

The base which wraps around your bottom:

After this, you are totally done and ready to wear your gorgeous blanket shrug! Now that was easy huh?
