The Perfect Knitted Blanket Shrug Pattern By Jerica From YarnHookNeedles

Hi, friends!

I’m Jerica from YarnHookNeedles.com! I am a knitwear designer who creates all sorts of items using knitting and crochet techniques. Today I am sharing with you a super fun pattern I created using the Hobium Yarn: GAZZAL BABY WOOL XL BABY YARN, PINK – 828XL. I fell head over heels in love with the texture as well as the silky simple way it works!

Let’s get started!

GATHER YOUR MATERIALS:

  • 6 cakes of Gazzal Baby Wool XL Baby Yarn in your desired color choice (appr. 654 yards)
  • US 13 circular needles
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry Needle

***please note this blanket shrug is a ONE-SIZE-FITS-ALL pattern

For this tutorial, I will be making a miniature version to help you learn the knitting pattern as well as clearly understand the assembling of the piece!

KNITTING TERMS:

K – knit

P – purl

YO – yarn over

SSK – slip slip knit

K2TOG – knit 2 together

THE PATTERN:

this pattern maintains a multiple of 6 + 2 (feel free to adapt the pattern to your desired size)

CAST ON 92

Row 1 – *k4, yo, ssk; repeat from * to last 4 sts, k4

(PICTORIAL FOR THE YO, SSK STITCH)

YO

Slip Knitwise

Knit the Slipped Stitches

Row 2 – purl all the way across

Row 3 – *k4, k2tog, yo; rep from * to last 4 sts, k4

Row 4 – purl all the way across

Your pattern should be looking like this after a few repeats:

Rows 5 – 189 : repeat rows 1 – 4

Row 190 – bind off

After you bind off the last row you will have a large rectangle. You will want to face your rectangle from the lines going vertically like this:

To the lines facing horizontally like this:

You will then fold right sides together bringing the top down to meet the bottom. From here you will need to grab you tapestry needle. We are going to seam appr. 12 inches closed to form the armholes.

After seaming, your shrug should look like this:

You can now see the neckline where the shrug will wrap around the top portion of your body.

The armholes:

The base which wraps around your bottom:

After this, you are totally done and ready to wear your gorgeous blanket shrug! Now that was easy huh?

Back to School: Unicorn Poop Pencil Case

Hey Friends! It’s Lori here. This month I decided to bring you a fun back to school project. I know a lot of us are going back to school or sending our little ones back. Theres nothing more fun than buying school supplies, am I right?! Okay, maybe making your own school supplies is more fun! So lets go ahead and get started on how to make your very own Unicorn Poop Pencil Case!

Materials:

8mm knitting needles

1 skein of apple cotton yarn

3-4 skeins of Gazzal Baby cotton yarn

Fabric for lining

Zipper

Needle and thread or sewing machine for constructing bag

Holding all strands of yarn together, cast on 25 stitches using the long tail cast on method.

You will work the body of the bag using the seed stitch.

Row 1-40: *Knit 1, Purl 1* Repeat until end.

If you are adjusting bag size, be sure that a knit stitch falls where a purl stitch is in the previous row and vice versa.

Cast off all stitches using the method of your choice. You should have something that looks like the picture above.

Line up the part you just knit on top of your fabric. Be sure to leave about a 1/4 inch all around for your seam allowance.

Fold your knit piece in half (it doesn’t matter which way you fold it). Sew up both sides of the piece leaving the top open. Turn your piece right side out (seams will now be on inside).

With the right sides facing each other, sew up both sides of your fabric (make sure to fold your fabric the same way you folded your knit). DO NOT turn your piece right side out.

Now it’s time to sew the zipper to your pouch. Fold the edges of your zipper to down and sew the zipper to the top of your KNIT pouch.

Now sew your lining in. Be sure to fold the top part of your fabric over when sewing it in so you have a clean edge. Sew the fabric over the zipper to hide any imperfections.

And your Unicorn Poop Pencil Pouch is all finished! You can now fill it with all the things your heart desires. It’s not only good for a school bag, but all things crafty as well!
