Mini Crochet Basket Pattern by BrennaAnnHandmade

Hello, and welcome to my first tutorial for Hobium! For this month’s free pattern, I’ll be showing you how to make these adorable mini crochet baskets. They are the perfect vessel to hold buttons, or any small items that need a cute storage container! 😉

Are you ready to get started? Here’s what you’ll need:

Materials:

1 Skein Gipsy KARTOPU Wool (Yarn is held doubled throughout pattern)

8mm crochet hook

5mm crochet hook OR tapestry needle (for weaving in ends)

Scissors

Abbreviations:

Ch = chain

Sl St = slip stitch

sc = single crochet

hdc = half double crochet

Directions:

(Using yarn held doubled by pulling from the inside & outside of the skein, with size 8mm hook)

Round 1: Ch 3, and put 7 hdc in the 1st ch. Sl St into the top of the beginning ch 3 to close round. (8 hdc total)

Round 2: Ch 2, and put 1 hdc in the same stitch. Crochet 2 hdc in each stitch around. Sl St into the top of the beginning ch 2 to close round. (16 hdc total)

Round 3: Ch 2, and put 1 hdc in the same stitch. *Crochet 1 hdc, then 2 hdc in the next stitch. Repeat from * all around. Sl St into the top of the beginning ch 2 to close round. (24 hdc total)

Round 4: Ch 2, and put 1 hdc in the same stitch. *Crochet 1 hdc in the next 2 stitches, then 2 hdc into the next stitch. Repeat from * all around. Sl St into the top of the beginning ch 2 to close round. (32 hdc total)

Round 5: Ch 1, and put 1 sc in the back & 3rd loop of the same stitch, (see picture) and each stitch around. (This will cause your work to stand up from the base of the basket, and form the sides of the basket.)

When you reach the end of the round, Sl St into the 1st stitch at the beginning of the round (not the Ch 2).

Round 6: Ch 1, and put 1 sc in the same stitch, and each stitch around. When you reach the end of the round, Sl St into the 1st stitch at the beginning of the round (not the Ch 2), this will help the seam up the side of the basket to be straighter.

Rounds 7-11: Repeat Round 6.

Cut yarn, and weave in all ends.

Ta Da! Your basket is now finished and ready to fill.

Happy basket making! 🙂

  1. Hi,

    I was wanting to recreate this pattern but the wool I have requires a 6ml hook. Would that mean I would need a 12ml hook once you double the strands?
